Delivered From a Dead End
(Genesis 22:1-13; Romans 4:17-20)
Genesis 22 - God delivered Abraham and Isaac
Three Kinds of Deliverance:
1. Circumstantial
2. Personal
3. Ultimate
Romans 4:16-22 "Therefore, the promise comes by faith, sot that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring--not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. [17] As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed--the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were. [18] Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be." [19] Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead--since he was about a hundred years old--and that Sarah's womb was also dead. [20] Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, [21] being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. [22] This is why "it was credited to him as righteousness."
What do I do while I am waiting for God to deliver me:
REMEMBER WHAT GOD CAN DO (V.17)
Luke 18:27 (NIV): Jesus replied, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."
RELY ON WHAT GOD HAS SAID (V.18)
Hebrews 11:17 (NIV): By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son,
FACE THE FACTS WITH FAITH (V.19-20)
2 Cor. 4:16-18 (NIV): Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. [17] For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. [18] So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
EXPECT GOD TO DELIVER ME (V.20-21)
2 Cor. 1:8-10 (NIV): We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. [19] Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. [10] He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us.
