What Is In the Heart of a Believer?
(Romans 1:8-14)
A BELIEVER'S HEART IS A GRATEFUL HEART
Romans 1:8 (NIV): First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.
1 Thes. 5:18 (NASB): In everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
TEST: Am I giving thanks in all things?
A BELIEVER'S HEART IS A PRAYING HEART
Romans 1:9 (NIV): God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you
Philip. 4:6 (NIV): Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
TEST: Do I pray more than I worry?
A BELIEVER'S HEART IS A SUBMISSIVE HEART
Romans 1:10 (NIV): in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you.
Psalm 40:8 (NIV): I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart."
TEST: Do I frequently ask the question, "Is this God's will?"
A BELIEVER'S HEART IS AN UNSELFISH HEART
Romans 1:11 (NIV): I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong -
Acts 20:35 (NASB): In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'
TEST: Do I attend church to GET something or to GIVE something?
A BELIEVER'S HEART IS A PERSISTENT HEART
Romans 1:13 (NIV): I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.
Galatians 6:9 (NIV): Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
TEST: Have I given up serving or being involved?
A BELIEVER'S HEART IS AN OBLIGATED HEART
Romans 1:14 (NIV): I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.
1 John 3:16 (NIV): This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our (others).
TEST: Do I GIVE credit or do I SEEK credit?
