When God Says Wait

When God Says Wait
(Exodus 13:7 & Deuteronomy 8:2)

Deuteronomy 8:2(NIV):  "Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands."
1. Don't Fear
Deuteronomy 1:26 & 28(NIV):  "But you were unwilling to go up; you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God.  [28] Where can we go?  Our brothers have made us lose heart.  They say, 'The people are stronger and taller than we are..."
Instead:
Isaiah 41:10(NIV):  "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

2. Don't Fret
Numbers 21:4-5(NIV):  "...But the people grew impatient on the way; [5] they spoke out against God and against Moses..."
Proverbs 19:2(NIV):  "It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way."
Instead:
Psalm 37:7-8(NIV):  "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.  [8] Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret - it leads only to evil."
Eccl. 3:11(NIV):  "He has made everything beautiful in his time."

3. Don't Faint
Numbers 14:2-4NIV):  "All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, 'If only we had died in Egypt!...We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.'"
Instead:
Galatians 6:9(NIV):  "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Luke 18:1(NIV):  "Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up."

4. Don't Forget
Psalm 106:7-8,13(NIV):   "...They did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled...Yet he saved the for his name's sake...But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his counsel..."
Instead:
Psalm 103:2(NIV):  "Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits ---"
2 Peter 3:9(NIV):  "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise...he is patient with you..."
Habakkuk 2:3NIV):  "For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false.  Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."
