Definition of Legalism:
An attitude which says "I can establish or improve my standing before God
by my activities."
 

GRACE-ROBBER # 1: I gotta do this to be saved!   (vs. 14-17)

    • The legalistic lie: I will be granted salvation by doing my part.   Acts 16:31 (NIV)


    • The grace filled truth – God has done everything necessary for salvation.

    • The legalistic lie: My religion makes me worthy. Romans 10:2-4 (NLT)

GRACE ROBBER # 2: You gotta feel it the way I feel it! (vs. 18-19)

    • The legalistic lie: Everyone’s spiritual experiences must be identical.
    • The grace filled truth: God delights in infinite variety and surprise.

    • The legalistic lie: If I obey God, I will earn more of His love.
    • The grace filled truth: I want to obey God because I am loved. John 14:21 (NLT)

 
Definition of Grace:
God willingly gives me what I do not deserve.
