What Is the Point of Life?
Ecclesiastes 7:23-25
Eccles. 7:23-25 (NLT): All along I have tried my best to let wisdom guide my thoughts and actions. I said to myself, "I am determined to be wise." But it didn't really work. [24] Wisdom is always distant and very difficult to find. [25] I searched everywhere, determined to find wisdom and to understand the reason for things. I was determined to prove to myself that wickedness is stupid and that foolishness is madness.
WHEN I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE POINT OF LIFE. . . .
- Life seems meaningless Eccles. 1:2-4 (NIV): "Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless." [3] What does man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun? [4] Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever.
- Life seems tiresome Eccles. 1:5-8 (NIV): The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises. [6] The wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course. [7] All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again. [8] All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing.
- Life seems un-fulfilling Eccles.
- Life seems insignificant Eccles. 1:11 (NIV): There is no remembrance of men of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow.
- Life seems un-fixable
WHAT IS THE POINT OF LIFE?
You were created to live forever.
Ephes. 1:4-6 (NLT): Long ago, even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. [5] His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure. [6] So we praise God for the wonderful kindness he has poured out on us because we belong to his dearly loved Son.
Ephes. 1:9-10 (NIV): And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, [10] to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment--to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.
THERE ARE 4 THINGS GOD WANTS YOU TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE.
- Get to know God John 1:10-13 (NIV): He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. [11] He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. [12] Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- [13] children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
- Become like Christ Romans 8:29 (NIV): For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Romans 12:2 (NIV): Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
- Practice Serving Ephes. 2:8-10 (NLT): God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. [9] Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. [10] For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
