The Single Greatest Gift

The Single Greatest Gift
Matthew 5:13-16 (NIV)

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
[14] "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. [15] Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. [16] In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

What will it take for us to give this "single greatest gift" to someone we know?

  • We must be willing to enter the zone of the unknown.
  • We must listen for the Spirit’s promptings Matthew 5:13-16 (NIV):  "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

  • Just walk.

Romans 5:8 (NIV):  But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Philip. 2:5-8 (NLT):  Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. [6] Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. [7] He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. [8] And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal's death on a cross.

John 4:13-15 (NLT):  Jesus replied, "People soon become thirsty again after drinking this water. [14] But the water I give them takes away thirst altogether. It becomes a perpetual spring within them, giving them eternal life."
[15] "Please, sir," the woman said, "give me some of that water! Then I'll never be thirsty again, and I won't have to come here to haul water."

It’s true: The single greatest gift Christ followers can give to the people in their lives is an introduction to the only God who created them, who loves them and who has a purpose for each of their days
