The Pleasure of God

The Pleasure of God

Rev. 4:11 (NLT): "You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created everything, and it is for your pleasure that they exist and were created."

Psalm 149:1-5 (NIV): Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints. [2] Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King. [3] Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp. [4] For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation. [5] Let the saints rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds.
Romans 12:1 (NIV): Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.

1. We bring pleasure to God when we love Him above everything else.

Hosea 6:6 (NLT): I want you to be merciful; I don't want your sacrifices. I want you to know God; that's more important than burnt offerings.

Ephes. 1:4-5 (NLT): Long ago, even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. [5] His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure.

2. We bring pleasure to God when we trust Him completely.

Psalm 147:10-11 (NIV): His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of a man; [11] the Lord delights in those who fear (honor) him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.

Psalm 50:13-15 (NLT): I don't need the bulls you sacrifice; I don't need the blood of goats. [14] What I want instead is your true thanks to God; I want you to fulfill your vows to the Most High. [15] Trust me in your times of trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory."

3. We bring pleasure to God when we obey Him wholeheartedly.

James 2:23-24 (NLT): And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: "Abraham believed God, so God declared him to be righteous." He was even called "the friend of God." [24] So you see, we are made right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.

Psalm 119:30-33 (NIV): I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws. [31] I hold fast to your statutes, O Lord; do not let me be put to shame. [32] I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free. [33] Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end.

4. We bring pleasure to God when we fulfill His purposes.

Psalm 37:23-24 (NLT): The steps of the godly are directed by the Lord. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

2 Peter 1:3-8 (NIV): His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. [4] Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
[5] For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; [6] and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; [7] and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. [8] For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
